Operation SAVE the Earth - Fighting against the Fukushima nuclear disaster

The 4-Steps Round Up 01.23.2015

Between the non-stop safety issues and the skyrocketing costs, nuclear power is looking more and more like the dud these days.  But they keep pushing, despite what the numbers on the radioactive fish or thyroid cancer in kids say.  It’s our job to push back and here’s how we do it, step-by-step:

STEP 1 EDUCATE & SAFEGUARD
Remember how we said last week the testing of fish around #Fukushima yielded some high radiation results even though South Korea and Japan are trying lift the ban on fish exports?  Looks like some activists in Seoul have been listening and are trying to put the brakes on that deal: http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/nation/2015/01/116_172187.html
STEP 2 EVACUATE #FUKUSHIMA NOW
Longtime anti-nuclear activist Harvey Wasserman published a piece on Common Dreams dot org last summer breaking down the numbers for thyroid cases in Japan post #Fukushima and if you missed it then, you should read it and understand the importance of Step 2: http://www.commondreams.org/views/2014/06/15/fukushimas-children-are-dying
STEP 3 CONTROL & CONTAIN
#TEPCO had 2 separate fatal accidents at #Fukushima Daiichi and Daini last week, right after they got scolded for not having better safety protocols.  “Oops sorry, we’ll do better next time” won’t cut it for the victims or their families.
STEP 4 NUCLEAR POWER IS OVER
Japan has set a new goal of having 15-20% nuclear power generation by 2030. That number seems HIGHLY optimistic considering what Step 4 is: http://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2015/01/23/national/government-mulls-15-20-target-nuclear-power-output-2030/
Meanwhile, look who gets stuck with the bill for the cleanup: http://itar-tass.com/en/world/771074
HEY #FUKUFIGHTERS!
#TEPCO execs escape the hangman’s noose for now in Japan in regards to the nuclear disaster.  Funny, it seems like we live in a time where the bad guys not only do not go to jail but they collect $200 and keep right on playing the game as if nothing ever happened!  That’s where YOUR 8 minutes comes in…
